'It's a special thing': Milwaukee woman to appear on 'Jeopardy!' tonight
Nicole Haase MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One Milwaukee woman is putting her trivia knowledge to the test on a national stage.
She appears Thursday night, Nov. 27, on a special Thanksgiving episode of Jeopardy!
For many trivia fans getting on Jeopardy! is a dream come true but imagine signing up on a whim and getting flown out five weeks after your audition.
"You don't know what to expect, the whole thing is an emotional roller coaster before you ever walk through the door," said Nicole Haase, Jeopardy! Contestant
Long time Jeopardy! fan and journalist Nicole Haase says her career gave her a board advantage.
"I've covered everything from real estate to oil because I was living in Louisiana. I write a lot about sports, I have a background in baking and pastry so that ability to always be asking questions and be curious about something," said Haase.
However, with the quick turnaround she only had a short time to study.
"For me it went very fast. I think I took the first test in late June, got the booking call in September and taped in October, super quick," Haase explained.
She had less time to get her mental buzzer ready for the big day.
"I tried to identify categories I know come up a lot that I'm not very strong in, for me that was stuff like Shakespeare, ballet, opera, composers' things like that. Before this I couldn't name the presidents in order, I can now," said Haase.
Once on the legendary set —
"You don't find out what episode you're going to be on until the previous one stops taping and then they sort of pick names," said Haase.
Current Jeopardy! contestant Harrison Whittaker is on a winning streak.
"They film five episodes on one day and I filmed the fourth episode of the day so at that point I watched him beat six other people so that's a little intimidating and I think it did adjust how I played," said Haase.
Despite the roller coaster day Haase says Ken Jennings and his team made the experience feel easy.
"He was like the least intimidating part of the whole day. The whole group there really, I was impressed how comfortable they make everyone feel," said Haase.
She even got to take home a special keepsake.
"My last name can be hard to pronounce so he crossed out the phonetic way they wrote it and he wrote Haase like Fozzie like Fozzie Bear," said Haase.
Since her episode airs on Thanksgiving, Haase has something extra to be thankful for, an unforgettable experience.
"It's a special thing, it's very memorable, Ken will say happy thanksgiving and things like that, but it does make it pretty special," said Haase.
You can watch Haase take the stage on Thursday on CBS 58 at 12:37 a.m.
On Friday, CBS 58 will share her reaction to how she placed.
