UPDATE: Deputy given NARCAN after exposure to unknown substance during traffic stop on I-94

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – A Waukesha County Sheriff’s deputy had to be given NARCAN and two people are in custody after a traffic stop near Brookfield Monday night.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a westbound vehicle on I-94 at South Calhoun Road. During the investigation, another sheriff’s deputy came to help.

Investigators say while the deputies were searching the vehicle, both deputies were exposed to an unknown substance inside the vehicle. One of the deputies was given NARCAN at the scene and both deputies were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure and later released.

The Sheriff’s Office says the driver of the vehicle was arrested for OWI as well as other drug-related charges. The passenger was also arrested on drug-related charges. Both were taken to a local hospital for medical clearance as a precautionary measure.

A portion of I-94 westbound was closed for several hours while the investigation continued. Several other law enforcement agencies also assisted. The incident is still under investigation.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – All lanes of Interstate 94 in Waukesha County are back open after an incident overnight shut several lanes down.

The sheriff’s department confirms the incident started as a traffic stop on I-94 west near Calhoun Road around 10 p.m.. Around 1 a.m., a CBS 58 crew drove past the scene. Around a dozen emergency vehicles could be seen near a car that appeared to be pulled over.

Authorities say drugs were found in the car and two people were taken into custody.
