Ice formations on Lake Michigan

MILWAUKEE-Ice is now covering %60 of the Great Lakes according to researchers with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.


Water around Milwaukee is still liquid because the winds have been so strong, water hasn't had a chance to freeze.


A CBS58 News viewers sent us some photos taken from an airplane Monday.


All of southeastern Wisconsin from 9pm Monday  through Noon Tuesday can expect  wind chills of -35 to -40.



Monday:  Brutal and dangerous cold settles in with near record lows of -17 in Milwaukee to -23 inland.  Wind chills drop into a -30 to -40 range through Tuesday morning under clear to fair skies



Tuesday:  Mostly sunny skies are forecast with afternoon highs only reaching -4 to 0 for a high temperature.  West winds of 10 to 20 mph create wind chills of -20 to -30 in the afternoon.



This Week:  Wednesday is partly cloudy with a high in the teens.  Mid to upper twenties are forecast Thursday with snow showers under mostly cloudy skies.  An inch or less of accumulation is forecast.  Mostly cloudy skies are forecast Friday and Saturday with more light snow possible Friday night into Saturday.  High temperatures Friday and Saturday reach the teens to low 20's.  Partly cloudy skies are forecast Sunday with highs in the teens.
