Ice Cube's BIG3 basketball tournament comes back to Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A different kind of basketball tournament has come to Milwaukee.
The BIG3 hosted Game 5 of the tournament Thursday, Aug. 5, at Fiserv Forum.
It's a three-on-three league that was co-founded by rapper, actor and producer Ice Cube.
On the heels of the Bucks' NBA Championship, Ice Cube says it was only right to bring the BIG3 back to the Cream City.
"We were like Milwaukee, man. They just won the ring. They just won the title. Let's keep the party going," said Ice Cube.
This league plays different from what you see in the NBA.
Three-on-three teams, half-court and four-point shots are just some aspects that make it fun and unique.
"We've also got a rule called Bring the Fire -- so if a coach doesn't like a foul he can say Bring the Fire and have those players go one-on-one for the cause," explained Ice Cube.
And BIG3 expanded its reach beyond former pro-athletes.
They've got skilled coaches from the NBA and WNBA, and ballers from all over the world -- including from Wisconsin.
"You know, we've got my man Mike Taylor in the league. He's one of the highest scoring players in the league," said Ice Cube.
Ice Cube said he co-founded the BIG3 to elevate this playing style to the professional level.
And of course, to introduce a classic game to the fans.
"Yeah, I know you're hoping that the fans bring that same energy from the Bucks inside of Fiserv Forum, right?" asked CBS 58 reporter Kim Shine.
"Why not? You know, this place has been here ready to keep the party going so it's going to be a great day today," said Ice Cube.
