Local leaders gathered to commemorate Workers Memorial Day
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- Hunger Task Force is gearing up for the holiday season and preparing its partners to assist local families.
Friday, Hunger Task Force gave out more than 1,400 turkeys and produce to more than 70 partners including food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters.
"Since March, people visiting food pantries, the total number has doubled. We lost emergency allotments and FoodShare," said Sherrie Tussler, chief executive officer for Hunger Task Force.
Rooted & Rising Washington Park is one of the partners picking up turkeys.
"Throughout the year, the support that we get from Hunger Task Force goes a long way," said Bill Schmitt, Rooted & Rising Washington Park executive director.
The turkey donations were made possible by Zurn Elkay Water Solutions. "Prices are unnaturally high right now, and we're in this sort of inflation space. It's difficult for people to bring all of those great foods to the table," said Tussler.
