MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Ahead of Easter, the Hunger Task Force (HTF) has teamed up with Palermo's Pizza to give out 500 Easter baskets full of food.
Friday, April 8 was the second day of the two-day event, where volunteers gave boxes of food to families struggling this holiday. Cars lined up at the Hunger Task Force to collect the boxes.
"What you're seeing is a whole series of vans coming from food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters right here in Milwaukee County," said Sherrie Tussler, the HTF executive director.
Palermo's made a name for itself right here in Milwaukee. It's known for its pizza, and Friday it handed out boxes filled with five frozen pizzas as well as fresh holiday staples like ham and carrots.
"Jelly beans, start with dessert first," said Nick Fallucca, Palermo's chief product innovation officer. "And then the kids have a great opportunity to decorate some eggs, which is a really fun time."
Going through the boxes, Fallucca showed off a dozen of eggs and an egg decorating kit was included too.
Fallucca says it's about more than just offering food. It's about putting a smile on the faces around the table.
"Right now it's tough for everyone," said Fallucca. "And families, especially, are hit, so it's great for families and kids to get something a little bit special."
Throughout the two-day event, 500 "baskets" were given out to organizations and families.
