Chester Marcol’s incredible story, 45 years later
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Hundreds of Milwaukee students are taking part in Denim Day, the international campaign against sexual violence.
On Wednesday, April 24, at UW-Milwaukee's Student Union, middle and high school girls participated in discussions about sexual assault, awareness and trauma.
Denim Day was started after a 1991 Italian Supreme Court ruling that overturned a rape conviction, saying the victim must have helped her attacker in removing here tight jeans.
Organizers say this is the most turnout they've seen in the three years of hosting Denim Day events.
"As overwhelmed as 300 feels, it's not enough. There are so many girls in our district who are really actually missing out by not being here today and not having access to this information," said Glenna Scholle-Malone, department of gender and identity inclusion with MPS.
If you or a loved one is experiencing abuse, contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673. Help is available 24/7.
