House under construction in Kewaskum burns down

VILLAGE OF KEWASKUM, Wis. (CBS 58) – A home under construction is a total loss after a fire Sunday morning in the Village of Kewaskum.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a passerby told a Kewaskum police officer about a possible fire at a new home being built in the 3500 block of E. Moraine Drive.

When police arrived, they found that the home had burned down and that only a small amount of fire remained. Firefighters put out the fires in the remaining hot spots.

Investigators say the home was not occupied and several portable propane construction heaters were being used inside to help in curing concrete. It appears the fire started sometime in the early morning hours and due to high winds quickly spread throughout the structure.

The structure was valued at $250,000. An official cause is still under investigation.
