Hoan Bridge lights up in honor of National First Responders Day

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Hoan Bridge lit up Thursday night, Oct. 28, in colors representing first responders -- red for fire and rescue, white for 911/dispatch, blue for law enforcement and yellow for emergency medical service.

Earlier Thursday, representatives from those vital services took part in a press conference.

"There are a number of men and women whose stories are heroic, that have made contributions to all throughout the years, and recently through the pandemic, through the protests and even through the election," said Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas.

"This honoring of us via the lighting of the Hoan is a stark reminder of the sacrifice made by the men and women of our first responder community," said MPD's Acting Chief Jeffrey Norman.

The bridge will stay lit until 2 a.m. Friday morning.
