Heyward's homer in 10th sends Brewers to defeat

Milwaukee -

Jason Heyward hit a two-run home run off Tyler Thornburg in the 10th inning, propelling the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over the Brewers in the opener of a three-game series at Miller Park.

Ariel Pena threw five strong innings, giving up just one run. Four other Brewers relievers threw a scoreless inning each before Thornburg allowed the Heyward long ball in the tenth.

Khris Davis hit a solo home run off Carlos Martinez, who struck out nine Brewers over eight innings.
