MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Earlier this afternoon, on Thursday, May 8, a surprise assembly was called for the students at Glenwood Elementary School in Greenfield.
It was a special surprise for one of the teachers, Megan Dixon.
Dixon teaches second grade at the Greenfield school, and she is one of five Teachers of the Year named by the state.
State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly was there for the announcement. She praised Dixon's skills in the classroom but says her dedication goes well beyond teaching.
"She volunteers in the community," said Underly. "She's baking cookies and bringing meals to homeless individuals and it's just her all around, she's just a 100% dedicated educator."
"They just, how wonderful to be able to share this with them," said Dixon. "It's really special. The hugs and the 'I love yous, I'm so proud of you.'"
Wisconsin names five Teachers of the Year and through an interview process, one will be chosen to represent the state in a National Teacher of the Year program.
