'Help me get justice': Mother searching for answers after son killed when bullet enters home

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A family is still searching for justice after their 25-year-old son was shot and killed in July.

On July 23, 25-year-old Nakia Thacker -- known as Nick by his loved ones -- was sleeping inside his home on 84th and Fairmount around 1:30 a.m.

Thacker’s mom, Tasha Thacker, says her son woke up to someone trying to break into his car in the parking lot.

“That is your safe haven. Like anybody would, he yelled and said remove yourself from my car and a rang [sic] of bullets started and unfortunately one hit my son,” said Tasha. “Some cowards, coward did this to my son and I want justice for my son.”

Thacker died shortly after. His car was left behind.

“I just miss my son, so it’s been very hard for me,” said Tasha.

Now, candles, pictures and other tributes line up the windowsill in memory of Thacker. Right above those items where the bullet went through the window and killed him is still visible.

Tasha says her son was a loving dad to two girls. His oldest daughter turned 6 years old just two weeks after Thacker was killed.

“That’s the type of guy y’all took away from the family,” said Tasha.

Tasha's still searching for answers. No arrests have been made, and Milwaukee police say this is still an active investigation.

“I pray every day I get that phone call that 'we got them,’” said Tasha.

Tasha says she hopes Thacker’s killer is found so that what happened to her son doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“Help me get justice for my son,” said Tasha.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the Milwaukee Police Department.
