Hazmat team responds to 'unknown substance' near Layton and National

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department recovered an unknown substance on Wednesday, May 22. 

It happened around 4:53 p.m. near Layton and National. 

Police say the substance was transported for drug testing, however, there was a concern for a potential hazardous substance 

The Milwaukee Fire Department Hazmat responded and tested the substance to ensure safety. The Milwaukee Fire Department cleared the building for operations.

Police say it is undetermined what the substance is, however, it was submitted to the state lab for further testing.
