Group rappels down Hyatt Regency Milwaukee for charity

MILWAUKEE -- If you see a group of people scaling down the Hyatt Regency, don't be alarmed, they're going to great heights for a good cause.

More than 50 people conquered their fears by repelling down the side of the 18-floor hotel.

It's all part of a unique event for Shatterproof, a non-profit organization that aims to protect children from alcohol and drug addiction.

The organization says more than 22 million people are affected by the disease.

The goal is to raise awareness and money for treatment and prevention, vital tools those in recovery say are lacking in the community.

Many of those rappelling, like Cody Pagenkopf, are using the task as motiviation to win their battle.

\"My personal struggle, I have addiction, alcoholism,\" he said. \"Today I'm 58 days sober and I found out about this from online and I thought it was a great way to get me started.\"

The Shatterproof Challenge in Milwaukee is one of 20 nationwide.

The organization hopes the unique event will empower the community to join the fight against addiction.
