Ground broken on new playfield at Milwaukee's Nativity Jesuit Academy
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Good for students and good for the community -- that's how officials at Milwaukee's Nativity Jesuit Academy are describing their new playfield that's now under construction.
Ground was broken Monday, May 12, at the school near 29th and Orchard.
They're creating a place where students can play basketball and soccer, and the project also includes a pedestrian wall that will be available to the public.
Nativity president Vanessa Solis tells us that while this playfield will be good for students, there's a public safety component as well.
"We're gonna be vacating 29th Street here and so closing it off, curbing some of the reckless driving that happens on the near south side and other parts of the city," Solis said. "Our children will be able to engage in recess in a safe environment, rather than being in a parking lot where there's vehicles and balls going into the street."
The playfield is expected to be ready for students and the public in the fall of this year.
Nativity Jesuit Academy is a K4-8 Catholic school serving Milwaukee's Latino community.
