Grocery Store Wars Heat Up With New Meijer Location in Greenfield

A 192,000 square foot Meijer Super Center opened Tuesday at 60th and Layton.

The location is across the street from Greenfield High School and not to far form the public library branch.

This is the second high profile opening for Greenfield.

One week ago, the hot dog chain Portillo's opened in what's call the 84 South development.

\"With our format of store, whether it's the growing seasons or the sports seasons, Wisconsin and Michigan, it's just a natural place for us to expand,\" said Hank Meijer, Executive Chairman of Meijer.

Meijer is based in Grand Rapid, Michigan and operates 230 super centers in six states.

There are now seven locations in Wisconsin, including Wauwatosa and Oak Creek with plans to open additional stores in Green Bay and West Bend.
