Greenfield's Skyler Gill-Howard's amazing journey to the NFL Combine
INDIANAPOLIS (CBS 58) -- Greenfield's Skyler Gill-Howard is a Texas Tech product who had an incredibly tough upbringing in Milwaukee, but yet his continuing journey now brings him to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
"From the longest time I was bitter because when I say, 'People don't make it past 17,' I was, my family was, a victim of that," Skyler Gill-Howard says.
"My brother was murdered when he was 17, and just seeing that made me bitter for the longest time. For two years I was going through a phase to where I just couldn't pull myself out of the hole. And 2024, that spectacular season I had at NIU [Northern Illinois] is when I finally got over the hump. But what made me better is just knowing I had three other siblings that I'm striving to take care of and a whole generation that I'm trying to inspire."
He added, "I like to not take things for granted. I tell my teams all the time, like, I might be standing up here, but I could not go get drafted in a few months. And that's just a reality of things. If you don't realize that? Then you're doing a disservice to yourself, so I just try to be grateful in the moment."
The defensive lineman may be seen as a long shot, but at least by being at the Combine, he has a shot.
