GREENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Greendale High School marching band is getting ready for a big event coming up in January. 

They're taking part in the Rose Bowl Parade -- one of 18 marching bands that will perform at the event. 

They were officially welcomed to the Rose Parade by the Tournament of Roses president. 

"Without communities like Greendale, which have a marching band program, we don't have the heartbeat of our program, the real rhythm and soul of the Rose Parade -- so we're excited to come out and visit," said Tournament of Roses President Mark Leavens.

The Greendale High School marching band will head to Pasadena, California for the Rose Parade on Jan. 1.
