Great Weekend Weather On The Way

After a cool end to the week, the weekend is looking much better. Temps on Friday struggled in the 50s. This weekend will hold a warming trend in the upper 60s on Saturday and middle to upper 70s on Sunday.
Check out this forecast, full sunshine both days! There will be a breezy southwest wind in place which will likely run 10 to 20 mph. But these temps got me thinking, how hot can it get in October? A check of the almanac shows our warmest temp ever recorded in October is 89° on the 6th of the month, back in 1963. But what about more recently? How common is it to have a nice weekend like this? Here's the last five years of data on the 10th and 11th of the month.
October | 10th | 11th |
---|---|---|
2014 | 54° | 60° |
2013 | 69° | 69° |
2012 | 49° | 65° |
2011 | 70° | 76° |
2010 | 82° | 67° |
Seems like feast or famine when it comes to late season heat, as most years either look chilly or warm. Keep in mind the average high is now just 62°. With that in mind, the best advice is to take advantage of a weekend like this, because sun and 70s will be hard to come by moving forward. As it looks now, a cooling trend back to more fall-like 50s are on the horizon as we get into the following week.
