Grant supports Japanese cultural events at Racine Public Library

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Public Library is hosting a Japanese Cultural Exchange series in July, supported by an East Asia in Wisconsin Library Program grant from the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Library staff said in a press release that the funding will help welcome visiting exchange students from Oiso, Japan, Racine’s Sister City.
Participants can experience Japanese calligraphy Thursday, July 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. in a guided session teaching kanji and brush techniques. A senior art origami workshop with Kiyomi will take place Tuesday, July 22 from noon to 2 p.m., giving adults over 50 the chance to fold paper into traditional shapes.
Racine Youth Sports will demonstrate Kodokan judo Saturday, July 26 from 1 to 2 p.m. for all ages, and high school students from Oiso will share their cultural experiences Tuesday, July 29 from 6 to 7 p.m.
