Grandmother saves Grand-children from Silver Spring fire

Streets were still blocked off at noon on October 20 at 36th and Silver Spring after a fire earlier in the morning.

A grandmother saved four of her grandchildren from the burning home.

Neighbors saw her banging on doors looking for help.

Fire crews were called to the scene at about 2:00 AM.

It took them two hours to get the fire out.

Police say a 10-year-old and two-year-old were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The five other people inside were treated for smoke inhalation, but they're expected to be OK.

“Her and the four kids came out, I know she had a hard time seeing, because there was a lot of smoke in the house,” said Sergeant Todd Lewan.

Police say the fire is being investigated as suspicious.

No word on the cause.
