Governor Walker calls for another UW System tuition freeze

MADISON -- Governor Scott Walker announced he will be calling for an additional two-year tuition freeze for the University of Wisconsin System. The Governor says the UW System is projected to carry a surplus of over $1 billion.


Governor Walker instituted the first tuition freeze in the history of the UW System as part of his 2013-2015 budget. The latest freeze will be in addition to that.


Governor Walker says, \"This freeze continues our commitment from the last budget to make college more affordable for working families and students across our state.\"


The UW System released a response to this news in a statement. UW System President Ray Cross said, \"I intend to work vigorously to find a reasonable solution. I am confident that we can get the best budget possible for the university.\"


UW Regent President Michael Falbo says, \"The board is focused on strong fiscal management and will do everything possible to find a way to work within the proposed constrictive fiscal parameters,\"
