Glendale father awaits charges in shooting death of son

GLENDALE -- A family, neighborhood and school community in Glendale are trying to cope with the aftermath of a family tragedy.

Police said a father shot his two sons, killing one of them.

The suspect is Robert C. Washington, Sr., 57, of Glendale. He is in police custoday and authorities expect the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office to file charges against him on Monday.

The victim is Robert Washington Jr., 20, of Glendale.

His 15 year old brother was treated and released from a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

When Glendale Police arrived at the home on West Theresa Lane Thursday afternoon, they found both of brothers lying in a neighbor's driveway consoling each other.

Paramedics immediately started CPR on Robert Jr., but he wouldn't survive.

The father surrendered to police without incident.

Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an argument between the sons and their father.

It is unknown what caused the dispute, but CBS 58 has uncovered the boy's parents were in the middle of a divorce.

Court documents show the suspect's wife filed to end their marriage in September 2013.

They are scheduled to be back in court on July 7.

The 15-year-old is a student at Nicolet High School.

In a statement, the superintendent said the district extends its condolences to the family.

Personnel is also on hand at the school for those who want to talk about the tragedy.
