MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Gateway Technical College is not letting the pandemic year deny its celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The school will hold a series of online events through Oct. 15, giving them the opportunity to engage students and the community to celebrate the culture and those who are part of it.
"Absolutely, so this is just a way to celebrate the number of students that we have that are Latino at the college," said Dr. Jorge Nieto, dean of general studies. "One in every five of our students is of Latino origin, so it's important for us to recognize our contributions, but also to share with the population all of the things that Latinos and Hispanics have contributed, obviously to the US, and this is just providing a slice of that to the community."
The series of online events will include folk music, a game night, and a discussion of today's Hispanic culture.
All events will be held on Zoom.
They are free and open to the public.
Specific details on the events, including times and Zoom links, can be found on the college website.
