Freshwater for Life Coalition Calls for Urgency for Replacing Lead Sewer Pipes

Milwaukee community leaders are calling for more urgency replacing lead sewer pipes in the city.

A group called the "Freshwater for Life Coalition" said they, like Mayor Tom Barrett, are concerned about the 70,000 homes that have lead pipes connecting them with the sewer system.

"Construction and other issues beyond their control may help to spike the lead levels in the water.  That solution can no longer be the panacea that they want to put out there.  What needs to be done is to remove these pipes and begin the process of removing them immediately,” said Barrett.

Mayor Barrett has criticized state government for not allocating enough money for Wisconsin's largest city to replace those lead pipes.
