Free Trauma Sensitive Yoga program to begin in Waukesha

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A trauma-informed approach to yoga aims to make the practice safer and more accessible by using intentional language and movements that acknowledge how trauma can affect mental and physical well-being.

Free Trauma Sensitive Yoga classes are set to begin in Waukesha through a collaboration between the United for Waukesha Resiliency Center and the City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.

Classes will be held on Wednesdays at the Rotary Building on 1140 Baxter St., starting Sept. 13. Pre-registration is required for the sessions that will run from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

The program adopts a trauma-informed approach, with a certified yoga therapist offering specialized training that will guide participants through gentle poses and mindful breathing techniques.

Participation is open to the public, and individuals can choose to practice on a mat or a chair. Modifications to poses will be available.
