Franklin native accused of killing Colombian DJ appeals case ahead of trial

FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Franklin native John Poulos, who was accused of killing Colombian DJ Valentina Trespalacios in January, was arraigned in a Colombian court Friday morning.

Poulos' defense filed an appeal to request that the capture of Poulos, who is a U.S. citizen, be declared illegal.

His defense alleges that during Poulos' detention, there was inhumane treatment and the deportation from Panama to Colombia was not justified.

The trial against Poulos begins on Monday, April 17.

The attorney general's office will request he be sentenced to 50 years in prison.
