4 men arrested in connection to Bluebird Motel shooting in Kenosha County

KENOSHA COUNTY SHERRIF\'S OFFICE

KENOSHA COUNTY (CBS 58) -- In a release from the Kenosha County Sherrif's Office, four individuals have been arrested following an investigation into a shooting on June 5 at the Bluebird Motel in the Village of Somers, WI. 

Kenosha County Sherriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting at motel around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies located William L. Phillips, a 39-year-old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after he had fled the motel parking lot in his vehicle.

Phillips was transported to a local hospital before being transported to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for further treatment.

He is still hospitalized and expected to survive his injuries, per the release.

Investigators determined several individuals arranged to meet at the motel for what is believed to be a narcotics transaction. While the meeting was happening, an attempted armed robbery occurred and the victim was shot multiple times. 

Investigators were able to determine the individuals involved through the use of surveillance footage, license plate reader technology (FLOCK), witness interviews, search warrants, digital evidence, and other investigative techniques, per the release. 

The following individuals have been taken into custody with their charges:

  • Curtis A. Robison, 35-year-old man
    • Attempted armed robbery, attempted first-degree intentional homicide (party to a crime) and felon in possession of a firearm. 
  • Kerry G. Turnipseed, 39-year-old man
    • Attempted armed robbery, attempted first-degree intentional homicide (party to a crime)  
  • Kendrick D. Role, 43-year-old man
    • Attempted armed robbery, attempted first-degree intentional homicide (party to a crime)
  • Joseph Rannow, 32-year-old man
    • Attempted armed robbery, attempted first-degree intentional homicide (party to a crime)  

KENOSHA COUNTY SHERRIF'S OFFICE

Formal charges have been referred to the Kenosha County District Attorney's Office for review. 

Sherrif Zoerner expressed his gratitude for the swift response in the release, "The swift resolution of this case reflects the outstanding work performed by our Detectives, patrol Deputies, K-9 teams, and law enforcement partners."

"From the moment this incident occurred, personnel worked around the clock to pursue leads, execute search warrants, recover evidence, and locate those responsible. Their determination and professionalism resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspects," said Sheriff Zoerner. 

The investigation is still ongoing.
