Foundry Explosion in Northern Wisconsin Leaves One Man Severely Burned

A man from Eagle River was transported to a Madison burn center after being burned from head to toe after a foundry explosion in Northern Wisconsin.

According to Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, Tuesday morning the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a large boom noise in the furnace area of Phelps Cast. The explosion was in the foundry area.

One employee was reported to be burned from head to toe. This employee was transported by helicopter and transported to the Madison burn center.

The employee is a 31 year old man from Eagle River, WI.

The company safety officer will be conducting an investigation into the foundry explosion.

Phelps Fire Department and EMS along with Land O’Lakes EMS responded to this call with Sheriff’s Office staff. Spirit Air 2 responded for medical transport.
