Former police officer charged with hiding corpse in suitcases

For twelve years Steven Zelich, the man accused of hiding two corpses in suitcases, was a police officer for the West Allis Police Department.

His career with the department began in 1989 and ended in 2001 when he resigned.  West Allis police have not said why he left his position as police officer.

In 2007, he started working for Secruitas Security System and still works there, but was put on administrative leave after his arrest.

The company said they followed all standard preemployment procedure, including a background check and drug test before hiring him.

They released  this statement: \"His employment records reflect no extraordinary or remarkable incidents and indicate a satisfactory work record.\"

Another source of income for Zelich was a Legalshield.com.  It's a company that links people to a lawyer in their community for legal advice.

Zelich was promoting the website on Craiglist.  He listed himself as an independent associate for the company.
