First Student Muskego needs bus drivers with just weeks to go until the school year begins
MUSKEGO, Wis. (CBS 58) -- First Student in Muskego is making a final push to hire more bus drivers before the school year begins.
"We have four large districts that need drivers," said John West, a trainer at First Student in Muskego. "As many as we can get before the school year. Even as school starts."
The company says you don't need experience driving a bus or any other large vehicle. They'll teach you to drive and get your CDL right at their location in less than four weeks.
Since no experience is needed, CBS 58's Amanda Becker took a bus through the skills course Monday morning, August 8 to see just how easy it is.
In just hours West taught her the basics of driving, reversing and even parallel parking.
West has been a trainer for five years, but he's been driving a bus for 11 years. He says the best part is the kids.
"One of our responsibilities is get to know the kids," said West. "And make sure they're safe, make sure they get to school and back, and that's sort of rewarding."
First Student in Muskego is also offering competitive pay starting at $20 per hour while you're training. That goes up to $22 per hour once you're on your own. They also give a $3,000 sign-on bonus to new employees.
First Student Muskego can help you get started today if you're considering becoming a bus driver.
