MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) continued their push Tuesday, to make sure people are protected from the dangers of house fires.
Over the weekend, a woman lost her life in a fire near 8th and Capitol on the city's north side.
No working smoke alarms were in the home at the time of the fire.
Tuesday, members of the Milwaukee Fire Department spent the morning going door to door in that neighborhood, installing smoke alarms free of charge in homes that needed them.
"Fire education and doing things prior to the actual incident to prevent fires from happening, or to prevent extensive damage or harm to people, it's so key in what we do as a fire department," MFD Captain Kristin Hepp said.
Tuesday's work was part of MFD's Project FOCUS, which stands for Firefighters Out Creating Urban Safety.
If you're in need of a smoke alarm, you can call the Smoke Alarm Hotline at 414-286-8980.
