MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The woman killed was identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office Monday as 62-year-old Lidia Soto Padua.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) says a 62-year-old woman has died from injuries and smoke inhalation following a fire near 20th and Layton Thursday, Feb. 8. 

Crews responded to the three-story family dwelling around 6:47 a.m. 

MFD says at least one person was removed from the third floor via ladders, and two other residents were found near the source of the fire on the third floor and taken to area hospitals. Both residents were hospitalized, and one remains in critical condition. 

Several other residents were evacuated without incident.

The fire department says smoke alarms were present and operational throughout the entire building. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  

According to the Red Cross, the fire impacted 39 units of the apartment building, and 40 residents have been displaced.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --The Milwaukee Fire Department has confirmed that one person died, despite resuscitation efforts, following a fire that took place early Thursday, Feb. 8. 

Fire Chief Aaron Lipski told CBS 58 that it was an apartment fire during which multiple people were rescued via a ladder and by interior rescues. He also noted that two people were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The person who died was described by Chief Lipski as being elderly.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation's cameras offered a view of the fire shortly after 7 a.m.
