Fire Officials Credit Smoke Detector for Saving Man From Serious Injuries

An early morning fire in Bay View is evidence of how important it is to have working smoke detectors.

Fire officials say it was an alarm that alerted a man to a fire inside his house, which is located just south of Howell and Lincoln. The fire broke out just after 3:30 AM. The man inside was able to escape the home unharmed. However, the fire did cause an estimated $120,000 in damage.

Inspectors are going through the house to determine the cause of the fire.
