Fire in vacant building under investigation

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire in a vacant building on Milwaukee’s north side.   Just before midnight Sunday, a passerby heard a smoke alarm sounding and saw flames in the first floor of the building at N 18^th Street and W North Avenue.   According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the fire was confined to the first floor of the structure and damage was minimal.   The cause of the fire is under investigation.
