Fire Damages Milwaukee Home Christmas Night

The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a fire in a 1.5 story home near N 1st and E Chambers Streets around 9:20 Christmas night.  The fire apparently started in the kitchen area of the home.  Two of the residents of the house were transported to St. Mary's hospital for treatment of injuries, but their condition is not known. The American Red Cross is assisting the family of 6 who were living in the home.

It took fire fighters only 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.  Damage, however, is estimated at nearly $147,000 to the building and its contents.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  There were no working smoke detectors in the house.
