Find 'The Dotting Chick' spinning records at Waukesha Rotary BluesFest in Delafield

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Cheryl Anderson has been spinning more records than usual preparing for Waukesha Rotary BluesFest, and her idea of spinning is probably a little different than most.

Anderson takes vinyl records, old and new, and turns them into pieces of artwork with her dot painting. Each record is covered in color and geometric shapes, creating popular mandala designs.

"I just put on the music of the album, usually my headphones, and I just paint and I’m ... It just kind of happens," said Anderson.

She doesn't have a plan or a design in her head when she sits down with a record and her paints. She instead lets the music inspire her.

"The album I’m working on right now on is 'Abbey Road' by the Beatles, and classic Beatles," she said. "I tend to be drawn to the music that I grew up with we’re talking 60s, 70s, 80s classic rock. That’s my favorite."

You'll find a range of LPs at her pop ups, from ZZ Top to Michael Jackson and The Steve Miller Band. You'll also find 78s and other vinyl with polka and popular tunes.

The Dotting Chick takes custom orders, as well. You can find Anderson at Waukesha's Rotary BluesFest in Delafield this weekend and through her website.
