Final training for firefighter recruits

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee Fire Department intentionally started a house fire Wednesday morning.

A burning vacant house near 21st and Wright was part of the final training exercise for a new class of recruits called “The Final Burn Exercise.”

“You can’t beat having a live fire burn like this, you can't really duplicate this anywhere else in training, so to be able to come out into the neighborhood and find a structure and actually use it and do a live burn and have them go through all the normal rotations of what a normal fire company would do, either a ladder company or an engine company, you just can't duplicate this kind of training,” said Captain Troy Klemstein with the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Wednesday was the culmination of the two-year fire training program for the cadets.

They will graduate on November 15.
