MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It wasn't so much the number on their scorecards, but the impact they'll have on young people in Milwaukee that brought smiles to golfers who took part in what's become one of the state's premier charity golf outings.

Hundreds of people, including prominent business, civic, and community leaders gathered Friday for the Fellowship Open at Silver Spring Golf Club. Now in its 19th year, the fundraiser has benefited nearly 100 youth groups in the area.

It also recognizes business and sports legends. This year's honorees are Marcus Corporation CEO Greg Marcus and an Olympian Sports Illustrated named the greatest female athlete of the 20 century, Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

"The Fellowship, what they do for young people, you know, to receive the Legend's Award, it's not about awards for me, it's really about how we can all work together, have impact, and seeing young people grow," Joyner-Kersee said.

"It's so important what they are doing," said Marcus. "I grew up in a family where education was stressed over and over again. It is foundational to our community, and to be able to be a part of something and to be honored by a group that is doing something that is so important, it's fantastic, and I'm glad to be a part of it."

CBS 58's Mike Strehlow was proud to emcee Friday's event that raised about a quarter-million dollars for five local youth groups.
