Feds Issue Travel Warning For Turkey

(CBS CHICAGO) – U.S. citizens are discouraged from traveling to Turkey, where a suspected terrorist attack at Istanbul’s airport left at least 10 dead.

“The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey,” a travel warning dated Monday says.

“U.S. citizens are reminded to review personal security plans and remain vigilant at all times.”

News of the attack spread quickly Tuesday after suicide bombers reportedly detonated explosives.

In Chicago, an Aviation Department spokesperson declined to discuss security precautions.

“We work with our airport partners — national, federal and state — to coordinate and make sure we’re aware of what is going on in the world and other parts of the country. We do that all the time,” the spokesperson said.
