Federal lawsuit filed against MPD over illegal strip searches

MILWAUKEE -- Attorneys representing victims of illegal body cavity searches by Milwaukee Police officers announced the filing of a lawsuit in federal court.

Four Milwaukee police officers lost their jobs after taking plea deals in the illegal body cavity search case.

The attorneys plan to sue the Milwaukee Police Department claiming the chief and department's command structure are legally responsible for the illegal search scandal.

Over 62 cases of illegal strip and cavity searches were investigated.

They alleged that the officers at witnessed the misconduct and failed to intervene were never disciplined.

Attorneys says all the victims were African Americans. They also say children, disabled and the mentally handicapped are among the victims.

The Milwaukee Police Department has declined to comment on this latest development.
