FDIC visits Racine apartment complex after reports of no heat
RACINE- The apartment building at 2700 Jacato drive in Racine went without heat for the month of October due to a broken boiler.
CBS 58 first reported this back on Friday October 25th.
The heat was back on in the building the following Sunday.
The building was a owned by the Bank of Kenosha, but when that bank went under in May, the complex and about five other properties on the street fell into the hands of the federal government.
According to the now former property manager Brian Walton, he became powerless to fix problems like the broken boiler which resulted in the lack of heat.
On Friday November 1st, the FDIC confirmed they sent contractors and their asset management group Prescient Inc. to inspect the buildings.
During those inspections they also told tenants to no longer take complaints to Walton and to go directly to Prescient.
The FDIC said they were aware of the conditions in the building, but were not alerted by Walton until October 25th.
According to the FDIC, Prescient monitors the conditions and does monthly inspections.
The FDIC hopes to have the results of their inspections on Monday.
