Father Gene's doubles shopping space as more people come in for free clothes
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- For a lot of people, a fresh, new outfit isn't always an option. Father Gene's Help Center wants to change that by making sure everyone feels good in their clothing.
Whether you're shopping for the perfect job interview outfit, or you just need something to run to the grocery store in, Father Gene's has something for women, men and children.
"When you put on something you feel confident in, you stand taller, you carry yourself better, your head is held higher," said Jessica Lubbering, the executive director for Father Gene's.
The free closet has been around for 50 years. There is no charge for customers, and you can shop for yourself, your kids or your spouse.
Last year, Father Gene's provided clothes for 7,000 people, and right now they're helping more than 100 people a day. After seeing an increase in people walking through the door, Father Gene's decided to expand its storefront and shopping space to accommodate more people and clothes.
For people looking for a good place to donate new and gently used items, donations are accepted in the back of the building Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To use Father Gene's free closet, all you need to do is give your name and birthday.
