Fatal Snowmobile Crash Occurs in Arbor Vitae

A fatal snowmobile crash occurred in Arbor Vitae in Northern Wisconsin on Monday, according to Vilas County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at 8:25 PM.

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office received a wireless 911 call reporting a snowmobile crash on trail 6 along Vandercook Rd in the Town of Arbor Vitae, Vilas County, WI.

The initial investigation disclosed that the deceased was operating on the marked snowmobile trail.  He struck a tree while traveling on the trail.  He was following other snowmobiles in his party.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim is a 63 year old man from East Moline, IL. The name of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Arbor Vitae Fire Department, Medic 5, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Vilas County Coroner’s Office responded to the accident.

The accident is still under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and the Vilas County Coroner’s Office.
