Fatal crash leaves one dead in Manitowoc County

Newton, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police say a single vehicle crash left one woman dead yesterday, on July 2, at 4:35 p.m.

Police say the victim was a 47-year-old woman.

The crash happened on I-43, north of Carstens Lake Road, within the town of Newton.

Officials say an 18-year-old Illinois woman was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler northbound on 43. The vehicle had a rear tire come off, causing the driver to lose control.

Police say the vehicle left the roadway and entered the median, causing the vehicle to overturn.

The 47-year-old woman was pronounced dead after life-saving measures were given.

The 18-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

I-43 northbound between County Highway C and USH 151 was closed for three hours yesterday following the crash, according to officials.

The crash is under investigation.
