Family and friends rule at Summerfest on the Friday before July 4th

Sunny skies and much warmer temperatures drew large crowds early to day 9 of Summerfest.

Friday night also marked the end of CBS 58 News at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. live shows from the \"Big Gig\" for the run of the festival.

On this federal holiday celebrating America's Independence, CBS 58's Michele McCormack wandered among the crowds looking for the fashion and fun that makes the music festival an excellent venue for people watching.

While many festival goers were in various red, white and blue ensembles, Michele found plenty showing their independent spirit when it came to their festival outfit.

Many had certain bands they wanted to see, but also thought it would be a great place to watch the fireworks on Friday night.

On Saturday, July 4th, all active military personnel and veterans, along with up to four family members, who present their Military ID at the designated turnstile at any gate will be admitted for free.

Saturday is also make a child smile day sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. The first 1,500 patrons who donate new or gently used children's books with a $10 minimum value, will receive one free admission ticket.

All the books collected will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
