Fallen Firefighters Tribute in Milwaukee

You may have noticed several stories recently on the CBS 58 News about fire prevention and safety.

It's no coincidence.

This time every year, the Milwaukee Fire Department tries to get the word out through a series of activities.

On Wednesday, that included paying tribute to the 127 members lost in the line of duty since the MFD was established back 1875.

There were bagpipes and the singing of the National Anthem as well as a flag presentation at the memorial outside the downtown headquarters.

The audience was reminded that the fire department is a family and members are considered brothers and sisters who willingly take on the dangers of the job in order to serve the community.

Fire Prevention Week continues Thursday with the Meritorious Service Awards at the Milwaukee Safety Academy.
