MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Judy Cohen of Lakeside Educational Services joined us on Wednesday, Oct. 8 to answer parent questions about helping children succeed in school.
She said organization is key to middle school success and encouraged parents to help students use planners and binders to stay on track. She also advised families not to wait for parent-teacher conferences to address concerns, suggesting early communication with teachers and counselors instead.
Another tip revolved around supporting students attending conferences to build advocacy and communication skills. She stressed the importance of accountability, saying consequences like grade deductions teach responsibility.
For parents struggling to connect with their children, Cohen recommended asking specific questions about their day rather than broad ones.
