Exam finds man charged in 38-hour Ozaukee County standoff not currently competent to stand trial

Ozaukee County Court

OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The man at the center of a 38-hour standoff in Ozaukee County is not competent to stand trial, according to the findings of a competency exam -- at least for now.

The exam was ordered for 37-year-old Matthew Novak late last month. That report was handed over in court Tuesday, June 10.

We're told it finds Novak isn't competent to stand trial right now, but doctors believe he will be at some point.

Another competency hearing is being scheduled for later this summer.

Novak faces six felonies, including second degree recklessly endangering safety.

He'll be back in court in August.
