Event brings helpful resources to veterans and their families in Milwaukee

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Helping veterans is a year-round effort but the pandemic has made it especially important.

Friday, June 25, the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative (MHVI) held a resource fair and cookout. Employment, healthcare, housing and many other resources were all under one roof to help veterans and their families.

"Coming off of 2020 and the pandemic, a lot of services and resources were unavailable... so we wanted to make sure as soon as things opened up that we were able to open our doors so that vets could come in and seek resources," said Debbie Buchanan, with Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Outreach.

The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Outreach also wants to point out that you can help out the organization. If you have any gently used furniture or other household goods, you can donate them to a veteran or veteran's family that moves in. They will come right to your house and pick it all up for you.
